Ericka Peachey
Technical Specialist
Embroidery
Ericka Peachey is a textile artist and embroidery technician based in Nottingham. Ericka gained a BA Hons in Textile Design specialising in Embroidery in 2007. She has worked at Nottingham Trent University as an Embroidery Technical Specialist since 2008. In 2023, Ericka completed an MA in Textile Design at Nottingham Trent University, alongside her technician role. She works with a variety of techniques including digital embroidery, hand embroidery and cyanotype printing. Her work focuses on the role textiles, clothing and fabrics play in invoking memory and connections to personal histories. She interprets different ways of capturing the passage of time by using stitch journalling, photography, cyanotype printing and visual and written documentation.
(Wedding Dress) In 2017 Ericka designed and embroidered her sisters wedding dress. This was a collaboration with her partner who undertook the construction. Following a divorce, the dress shifted from cherished object to one that could not be looked at. Emotions elicited by the item changed. This prompted Ericka’s MA research, exploring the emotional value of fabrics and clothing. (Textile Book) Ericka's MA project explores the role of textiles to invoke memories and sentiment. She has utilised her own collection of fabrics or clothing that she feels emotionally attached to, using embroidery to explore their connections to memories of people, places, or moments in time. Through hand stitch and digital embroidery, she has delved into her personal memories and the idea of collective memory through her own rare experience of growing up as a triplet.
