Technical Team Leader
Immersive Media
Matthew Robertson is a visual artist and technical team leader with over two decades of experience in photographic practice. Holding both a BA and MA in Photography, his early work was deeply informed by the New Topographic movement, exploring the intersection of landscape, human intervention, and visual neutrality. In recent years, Matthew has transitioned into 3D digital platforms, expanding his practice to encompass narrative development, comic art, and illustrative storytelling. Matthew’s interdisciplinary approach reflects a commitment to evolving visual language, combining traditional photographic sensibilities with contemporary digital techniques to craft richly layered, speculative worlds.
I have recently transitioned into 3D digital platforms, expanding my practice to build upon my interests in narrative development, comic art, and illustrative storytelling. My current focus is JUNKERS, a science-fiction project aiming to culminate in a fully animated film, blending hand-painted animation with 3D animation. The displayed work gives an insight in to the world-building process using illustrated images, graphic art and 3D to build a rich narrative.
It sounds cliche to say “every day is completely different” but it’s true. Technicians play such a pivotal role in the creative output of students. It’s rare to find a career where you can indulge your skills as a creative practitioner and pay it forward.
