Megan Wigley
Senior Technician
Garment Construction
My background is in tailoring and denim, with over ten years at Paul Smith as a Technical Design Assistant and wash developer. Before this, I trained with two tailors, learning the craft of hand sewing, alterations, and garment construction—skills that continue to shape my practice today. Sustainability is central to my work: I explore ways of extending the life of clothing through repair, visible mending, and reworking waste into new garments. I have also led workshops at ethical fashion events to share ideas and pass on skills. I hope to inspire others to value their clothing, and to celebrate holes, repairs, and imperfections as markers of the stories our garments carry.
This work is made from off-cuts and waste sourced from the fashion studio at NTU, reworked into a new piece of cloth with the potential to become a garment. Using hand stitching and methods rooted in my tailoring training, I bring together fragments that might otherwise be discarded. The process reflects both care and sustainability: a slow, deliberate act of making that transforms remnants into material with renewed strength, possibility, and beauty.
